In the vibrant city of Portage, Michigan, a local homeowner recently experienced the benefits of entrusting their bathroom transformation to Character Interiors, a local remodeling pro known for their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. This project not only remodeled the homeowner’s bathroom but also highlighted the many advantages of working with a professional remodeling company.
Preparation
Character Interiors began the project with a comprehensive preparation phase, adhering to their guidelines and industry standards. They provided floor and home protection throughout the project, ensuring the rest of the home remained unaffected by the remodel. They also set up plastic containment during high dust and debris work, demonstrating their commitment to maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
The team at Character Interiors understands that a remodel can be disruptive to daily life. To minimize this disruption, they committed to daily clean-up using brooms and dustpans, ensuring the work areas were tidy at the end of each day. They also provided professional site clean-up at the completion of the project and arranged for debris removal and disposal daily.
Demolition
The main bathroom remodel began with a thorough demolition phase. The team carefully removed the existing base trim, quarter round/shoe molding, shower curtain rod, and toilet, saving the latter for re-installation. The vanity mirror and light fixture were removed and left with the homeowner, as were the two towel hooks. The existing bath exhaust fan, fiberglass/acrylic tub and surround, tub faucet, and drain were removed and responsibly disposed of.
The team also removed the existing ceramic/porcelain floor tile and prepared the floor for new tile. They ensured that the floor underlayment was free from grout, ready for the new tile. It’s important to note that no removal or replacement of the vanity, vanity faucet, vanity top, or any bathroom door, frame, or casing was included in this proposal.
In addition to the bathroom remodel, the team also undertook some work in the kitchen. They disconnected the fridge and dishwasher water lines and dishwasher drain to facilitate the work of the flooring company. They also committed to reconnecting the dishwasher and fridge once all flooring work was completed.
Rough-In

Once the demolition was complete, the team moved on to the plumbing rough-in work. They installed a client-supplied bathtub in a Structo-Lite base and a client-supplied tub drain and overflow, reworking the existing drain piping with a new p-trap as necessary. They also installed a client-supplied single tub/shower valve in the wall, tying it into the existing water lines. The water piping was done with Uponor PEX tubing and/or copper. The team also cut out the existing PVC toilet flange as necessary as the flooring was being repaired.
This project serves as a testament to the expertise and professionalism of Character Interiors. They demonstrated their commitment to quality and customer satisfaction through their meticulous approach and attention to detail. They also showed their flexibility and versatility by undertaking work in both the bathroom and the kitchen.
Bathroom Transformation

The homeowner was thrilled with the transformation. The new bathtub, tub drain, and shower valve enhanced the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the bathroom. While the removal of the old fixtures and floor tile gave the space a fresh and modern look. The work in the kitchen also improved the functionality of the space.
