Tear Down and Disposal
The initial stage involved removing the existing fixtures and finishes from the half-bath and the adjacent bedroom. These included base trim, door casings, the bathroom door and frame, pedestal sink, faucet, toilet, and an exhaust fan/light. The crew prepped for the new flooring by removing the ceramic/porcelain floor tile from the bathroom and installing the underlayment.
They made room for the bathroom expansion by removing all existing drywall, plaster, paneling, and the wall framing between the half bath and bedroom. While the teardown process may sound straightforward, it required a keen eye and meticulous hands to ensure a smooth transition for the reconstruction phase.
Bathroom Renovation
The next step was to open up walls and ceilings for necessary electrical and plumbing modifications and alterations, in collaboration with Signature Wiring and DC Plumbing, the electrical and plumbing contractors, respectively. Our team framed in a new wall and ceiling for the enlarged bathroom, with a ceiling height of approximately 84″. In addition, they installed a new closet in the bedroom.
Character Interiors also handled insulation installation in the exterior wall and installed new drywall to the bathroom walls, ceiling, and the new bedroom wall. Our team also expertly repaired and finished any drywall affected by the remodel, seamlessly blending into the existing structure.
The team installed new 1×6 wide base trim to the bathroom and bedroom wall, matching the existing trim as closely as possible. They further enhanced the aesthetic appeal and functionality by installing two white hollow-core 6-panel doors: a pocket door for the bathroom and a hinged door for the new closet.
In terms of flooring, they provided and installed LVT/LVP flooring in the bathroom. This not only elevated the aesthetic value of the room but also ensured durability and longevity.
Finishing Touches
Once the structural modifications were complete, it was time for the finishing touches. The crew installed a new bathroom exhaust fan and properly vented it to the exterior. DC Plumbing and Signature Wiring completed the plumbing and electrical work.
