Our recent kitchen and porch remodel in Portage, MI is a testament to our commitment to detail-oriented, comprehensive, and customer-centric craftsmanship. One of the challenges this project posed was the need to move all the furniture and appliances, and re-install them post-completion. We successfully handled this task without any damage, ensuring the client’s peace of mind.
Local Partners
Our collaboration with Modern Flooring of Kalamazoo allowed us to oversee the installation of new flooring. Post installation, we accentuated the elegance of the floors with pine 1×6 base with 1×1 Qtr. Round molding, adding a touch of traditional charm.
Kitchen Remodel
The kitchen space was a significant focus of our project. We undertook extensive remodeling of the kitchen wall, cabinets, countertops, trim, staining, and finishing. The crew relocated the refrigerator and kitchen cabinets to the dining room wall. We left the support post in place to maintain the structural integrity. To facilitate communication and seamless movement, we created a pass-thru countertop, supported with a new lam header.
Lighting played an integral part in creating a warm ambiance. We installed recess lights in the bulkhead over the new countertops, and under-cabinet lighting to the existing base cabinets. We relocated electrical connections as necessary to facilitate these changes.
Our team also modified the peninsula cabinet and installed 4 caster rollers for a new island cabinet. The installation of butcher block countertops and a new drop-in kitchen sink, supplied by the client, marked the completion of the kitchen area remodeling.
Finishing Touches
To maintain consistency, we lightly sanded and re-stained the existing cabinet doors. We also installed small crown/flat molding to the top of all wall cabinets. We gave them a finishing touch with stain and clear coat. A new MountainView Double Hung window over the sink and a white out/wood grain pine casing, ext. jambs, sill, and apron, served to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the kitchen space.
We removed the dining room-to-porch sliding door and left it with the homeowner as per their request. The team trimmed the door with wood trim to match the existing décor. During this process, we also replaced 10 existing windows with MountainView White Out/ Wood Grain Interior Finish double hung windows, with Low/E and Argon Glass.
Porch Remodel
The next part of the renovation was the porch. The crew removed the existing siding and windows carefully. The homeowner wished to keep them for future use. Here, we installed a HomeGuard Steel Entry Door, providing a sturdy and stylish entrance.
Our team made a significant impact in the interior space, creating an open plan between the bedroom/weight room. We transitioned the flooring between rooms smoothly. The team also relocated any electrical as necessary.
The homeowner decided to remove the paneling on the exterior walls themselves. They also insulated them before our team installed 1×6 Pine Car Siding. A quaint touch was the installation of client-supplied bricks for a new hearth in the corner of the room.
Modern Tile & Flooring expertly installed all flooring in the dining room, kitchen, hallway, and porch. The installation of a new Homeguard Steel New Construction Front Entry Door added a final touch to the project, offering a secure and stylish entrance.

Conclusion
